The Case Timeline
On January 1st, 2006, Ebony Brown was shot and killed in the apartment she shared with Ha’son at 300 Grant Avenue Morgantown, West Virginia.
In the early hours of New Year's Day, 2006, Ha’son went to McFadden’s, a local bar in Morgantown, West Virginia, to pick up marijuana from Danielle Hilling.
At the bar, Hilling, and Hilling’s sister Nina Jefferson were intoxicated and high, starting fights outside. Ha’son stepped in and took the sisters back to his apartment to smoke weed.
Ha’son and Ebony were in the process of moving to New Jersey, and Ha’son was under the impression she had left for New Jersey earlier that day. When Ha’son realized she was still at the apartment, he left Hilling and Jefferson in the common area and went to their bedroom to talk with Ebony. Shortly into this conversation, Ha’son went into the adjoining bathroom.
While he was in the bathroom, Ebony realized that Hilling and Jefferson were in the apartment and she went to confront them. Ha’son heard them yelling from the restroom, but before he could intervene, he heard a gunshot.
Ha’son rushed out to find Ebony on the living room floor with Hilling and Jefferson holding a gun and standing over her body.
When Ha’son saw Ebony lying on the floor, he immediately ran to her, calling her name and crying as he tried to revive her.
Threatening to blame him for the murder, the two women pressured Ha’son to help them cover it up. They insisted that as her boyfriend, and an outsider to the Morgantown community, no one would believe him over them.
HILLING AND JEFFERSON TOLD HA’SON THAT THEY WOULD FRAME HIM FOR THE MURDER IF HE DID NOT HELP THEM CLEAN UP THE SCENE AND DISPOSE OF EBONY’S BODY.
Feeling trapped and in shock, Ha’son complied.
